Who we are?
Materials Developed in the Prepared Environment
Laughing Star Montessori was founded by Mark and Susan Scheibenzuber. Susan trained as a Montessori guide and spent years working with children in the sensitive period for writing, where she found the available handwriting materials fell short of what her students needed. She began producing her own.
Each material was introduced to a class, observed in use over successive terms, and revised according to what the children demonstrated. Several of the books in this catalog went through years of refinement before they were offered for sale. That method has held. We follow the child, and the child directs the work.
Our materials now serve Montessori classrooms and homeschool environments internationally, with editions in English, Spanish, and French. We remain a two-person operation by choice, which allows us to answer every inquiry directly and to know the schools we supply.

Susan develops each material by hand and tests it in classroom use before it enters the catalog. Mark manages orders, fulfillment, and school accounts. Orders received early in the week are generally shipped within one business day.
